It’s Thanksgiving and that means the whole family is together, which is great. But it also means the whole family is together, talking, laughing, teasing each other, and generally getting underfoot while you’re trying to cook. Sometimes “help” from the kids can lead to more work for you. So give the kids something fun to do with these easy turkey-themed candy crafts.
Kids will love making sweet treats for the family, and you’ll love being able to focus on getting that turkey just right. With bulk candy and a few easy to access supplies, you can keep everyone occupied until dinner is ready for the table.
Turkey-Themed Candy Crafts
Reese’s Pieces Turkey Treats
So cute and easy to make, your kids might not want to eat them. Well, except that they’re full of irresistible Reese’s Pieces.
What You’ll need:
Reese’s Pieces candy
Pipe Cleaners (red, brown and yellow)
Glue
Tulle
Clear hair elastics
How to make them
- If your tulle isn’t pre-cut into circles, cut 9 inch rounds, one for each turkey.
- Put a handful of candy in the middle of each tulle circle.
- Gather the edges together and secure with an elastic
- Trim a brown pipe cleaner so it is about 6 inches long.
- Roll one end of the pipe cleaner into a spiral leaving a 2 inch tail.
- Cut a one inch length of orange pipe cleaner.
- Wrap it around the outer coil of the brown pipe cleaner to make a beak.
- Glue googly eyes on either side of the beak.
- Cut a short piece of red pipe cleaner for the wattle and attach below the beak
- Cut two yellow pipe cleaners into 8 inch lengths.
- Fold the bottoms of the yellow pipe cleaners to make toes.
- Insert the ends of the yellow and brown pipe cleaners into the tulle to complete your turkey.
While Reese’s Pieces offer a ready-made fall color palette, you can get creative with the candy. M&M’s and Sixlets work just as well. To make this craft easier and safer for little hands, you can cut the pipe cleaners to length ahead of time.
Tootsie Pop Turkeys
We all know Thanksgiving is all about the Turkey. Make these adorable lollipop treats and then stick them in some floral foam to display until dinner is over.
What you’ll need
Tootsie Pops
Hershey’s Kisses
Red and orange felt
Glue dots
Googly eyes
Fake leaves
How to make them
- Use glue dots to attach googly eyes to a Hershey’s Kiss
- Cut out a small triangle of orange felt and attach it between the eyes, align your triangle along the point of the kiss.
- Add a strip of red felt for the wattle.
- Use glue dots to attach your decorated kiss to the side of the lollipop wrapper.
- Attach a fake leaf to the other side to make the tail.
You can use other types of glue besides glue dots, but keep in mind that liquid glue might get on your candy, making it inedible.
